Can you call Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand? Let them know you've got their backs in voting "yes" to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell tomorrow, and staying in Washington as long as it takes to finish the job.

Dear MoveOn member,

Harry Reid is done with the Republicans whining about having to work over the holidays while simultaneously obstructing votes on critical legislation.

So last night Senator Reid announced he'll hold a critical vote tomorrow to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," the shameful law that bars openly gay or bisexual people from serving in the U.S. military.1

And the latest word is that, after years of organizing by equality advocates and progressives, the Senate finally appears to have enough votes to pass a repeal!2 The only thing standing in the way of ending this destructive, bigoted law are Republican attempts to continue to delay a vote.

A majority of the Senate is ready to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. But they need to know we're on their side in staring anti-equality Republicans down.

Can you call your senators, Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, right away? Let them know you've got their backs in voting "yes" tomorrow on a critical vote to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and staying in Washington as long as it takes to finish the job.

Here's where to call:

More than 13,500 Americans have been discharged from military service simply for being open about their sexual orientation, thanks to this terrible law.3

But since President Obama vowed to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the tide has been turning. Everyone from Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Michael Mullen and Defense Secretary Robert Gates to military service members have come out as supportive of allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly.4 And with the news that four key Republican senators are now in favor of repeal, there's real momentum behind repeal.5

But some Republicans are determined to obstruct any vote and run out the clock on repeal this year. Can you call Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand right away? Let them know you've got their backs in standing up to anti-equality Republicans, and voting "yes" tomorrow.
