ENOUGH! (What President Obama can do on guns, right now.)

The horrific images from last week's shooting in Oregon keep coming at us, and so does the realization that Washington politicians are too afraid of the National Rifle Association and gun manufacturing lobby to take any action that would curb gun violence.
Dear MoveOn member,

The horrific stories from last week's shooting in Oregon keep coming at us—and so does the realization that Washington politicians are too afraid of the National Rifle Association and gun manufacturing lobby to take any action that would curb gun violence.

But there is another avenue for change: President Obama can take a set of executive actions—on his own authority, without the Republicans in Congress—to tighten gun regulations and make America safer.

Will you contribute $3 to our campaign to urge the president to take executive action to make Americans safer?

Yes, I'll chip in.

Our allies at Every Town for Gun Safety have put out a call to President Obama to take bold steps, without waiting for Republicans to act, and without having to listen to the NRA. We're calling on him to:
  • Remove exceptions that let dangerous people carry guns near schools.
  • Make sure high-volume gun sellers become licensed dealers—meaning they will no longer be exempt from conducting background checks.
  • Ensure all federal agencies are notified when dangerous criminals try to illegally buy guns.
  • Help states enforce background checks.
  • Keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.
All of these are actions President Obama can take with the powers provided by the Constitution. We're launching a campaign to let President Obama know that we will help him stand up to the NRA. First, we'll show the President how many Americans stand with him. And then, when he does the right thing, we'll back him up when the inevitable attacks come in Congress. Will you chip in $3?

Click here to chip in. With your help, we'll push President Obama to do everything he can on guns, and then make sure that Republicans can't undo these commonsense reforms.

More than 600,000 MoveOn members have signed a petition for gun control. Yet, Congress—afraid of the gun lobby—won't act.

President Obama can act. He has no more elections to run in. And as he said, he hopes never to have to walk to that podium again to share his condolences over another school shooting.

Let's do more than offer condolences—let's summon the energy to push for real change.

Will you pitch in $3 so we can launch this campaign for bold executive action now—while the tragedy in Oregon is fresh in our minds, and while Americans have the will to demand change?

Yes, I'll pitch in.

Thanks for all you do.
