A grieving father's request

We just created a new video based on recent interviews with Khizr Khan, the father of the soldier killed in Iraq, who has so powerfully challenged Donald Trump's racism.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Anne Thompson, MoveOn's Video Lab Director. We just created a new video based on a recent interview with Khizr Khan, the father of the soldier killed in Iraq, who has so powerfully challenged Donald Trump's bigotry.

Mr. Khan had the courage to publicly confront Trump in a speech at the Democratic National Convention. And now, he's calling out Senator John McCain for his failure to reject Trump's hate—and asking McCain to revoke his endorsement of Trump.

VIDEO: Khizr Khan to John McCain

In a moving story during a recent interview with Cronkite News, Mr. Khan explained that Sen. McCain is their family's hero—and that the last book he sent to his son, Captain Humayun Khan, in Iraq was McCain's book, "Why Courage Matters."1

He says to Sen. McCain: "If you publicly rebuked [Trump], you will look back and you will stand tall in front of the nation. You will say, we were not for this. We were for a better America.”

I want to get Mr. Khan's words in front of every GOP leader, starting with Sen. McCain, who's prided himself on putting country over party. And because Sen. McCain is expected to be in a tight election this fall, I want to make sure Arizona voters—especially veterans, who are already starting to dump Trump—know exactly where Sen. McCain stands.2

I checked with our ad team, and they say there's a way to do exactly that. With your help, we'll expand our ad buy in Arizona to reach swing voters who could make a difference in this fall's election. If national Republicans see Sen. McCain paying a price for enabling hate, it'll increase the pressure on ALL Republicans who continue to stand by their Trump endorsements.

This isn't our entire plan to defeat Trump and his politics of bigotry and hate—not by a long shot. MoveOn recently worked with veterans to organize a petition delivery to Sen. McCain's office in Washington, D.C.—and we're getting ready to do another delivery in Arizona this week.3 We are also in the process of hiring 40 field organizers and have launched a huge operation to defeat Trump and his hate.

But today, the biggest way we can make an impact is to amplify Mr. Khan's powerful voice and make an example of Republicans who refuse to withdraw their endorsements.

Will you chip in $3 to help make sure Sen. McCain and other GOP leaders can't miss the raw power of Mr. Khan's message?

Yes, I'll chip in.

Thanks for all you do.
