Former FBI Director James Comey's testimony yesterday morning leaves no doubt that Donald Trump abused his power as president to undermine an ongoing investigation into his team's ties to Russia.1
Trump's abuse of power and relentless disregard for the rule of law are inexcusable, and Congress should not continue to ignore them.
Donald Trump and those around him have sought to undermine the institutions of our democracy in ways we've never seen before. In his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, former FBI Director James Comey implicated Donald Trump in a massive abuse of power—testifying that Trump asked him to stop the FBI's investigation into Trump's disgraced national security adviser Michael Flynn and fired Comey when he refused.
Our nation's founders made sure that the Constitution contained a check on a president who abused power and broke the law. And what Comey's testimony tells us is that Trump has committed that very kind of impeachable offense—a high crime or misdemeanor under our Constitution.
Congress must now live up to its constitutional obligation and begin impeachment proceedings of Donald Trump. Click here to sign the petition to Congress, and then pass it along to your friends.
We will not treat this as normal. And politicians in Washington must not continue to conduct business as usual. Everyone in Congress must look in the mirror and decide how they will fulfill their oath to defend our Constitution—and which side of history they want to be on.
