FW: Stop this immoral disaster

I'm hitting the road—with MoveOn and other partners—to share the message that we must reject this outrageous corporate giveaway. Instead, we need to invest in our communities and build an economy that works for all of us, not just the one percent.

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw my message from the other day.

Dear MoveOn member,

Throughout my political career, I have asked us all to imagine what our nation's future could be: a country with a minimum wage that is a living wage; with students graduating college without crushing debt that stifles their ability to pursue their dreams; where health care is recognized as a right for every man, woman, and child; and where we lead other nations in the fight against climate change.

I have asked us to believe that we could level the playing field and create a vibrant democracy where the billionaire class would no longer be able to buy and sell our candidates and elections.

I will always believe in that vision of America—even as I watch Republicans try to pass a tax scam that is literally the opposite agenda of what you and I have championed over the years.

As they continue to fight for more tax giveaways for their wealthy Wall Street donors, less health care for ordinary Americans, and more debt for college students, we must stand up, fight back, and make our voices heard.

That's why I'm hitting the road—with MoveOn and other partners—to share the message that we must reject this outrageous corporate giveaway. Instead, we need to invest in our communities and build an economy that works for all of us, not just the one percent.

Together, we're bringing this progressive agenda—which is supported by the vast majority of American voters—to Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania next weekend, with big rallies to push members of Congress to reject this tax scam.

Click here to chip in $3 to help MoveOn, as we go on the road to stop the destructive, obscene, and immoral GOP budget and tax plan.

Over the summer, I went on the road with MoveOn to help defeat the Republican "health care" bill that would have thrown as many as 32 million Americans off of the health insurance that they currently have.

And I'm going on the road again because we have to defeat this bill, too—a tax bill that will slash taxes for the rich, raise taxes on working families, and lay the groundwork for a massive attack on the most vulnerable people in our country.

This bill is an immoral disaster. If it passes, 13 million fewer Americans will be insured, and health care premiums will surge for tens of millions more. Further, the Republican budget cuts Medicaid by $1 trillion over 10 years and Medicare by over $400 billion. In order to give huge tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations, the Republican budget also makes enormous cuts to education, nutrition, affordable housing, and transportation—and will crush college students and college graduates struggling with debt.

In short: This budget will do incalculable harm to tens of millions of working families, women, kids, the sick, the elderly, and the poor. We have to fight this budget and stop it. That's why I'm hitting the road with MoveOn, and why I'm asking you to support the work that we're doing.

Can you chip in $3 and join the fight with me?

Now is exactly the time to demand the agenda that we fought so hard for.

Together, we must build a progressive grassroots movement across this country that not only defeats this disastrous legislation, but which leads the struggle to create an economy and government that work for all of us, not just the one percent.

Instead of cutting taxes on the wealthy, let's increase them—and use that money to pay for universal health care and free tuition at public colleges and universities. Let's raise the minimum wage to a living wage—$15 an hour—lead the world in combating climate change, transform our broken criminal justice system, and pass comprehensive immigration reform.

This is your agenda. This is my agenda. This is the MoveOn agenda. And we need to fight for it—and against the GOP's efforts to undermine it. Eddie, I need to know if you are still with me in this fight. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I am in the fight for the progressive agenda.

In solidarity,

–Senator Bernie Sanders

Should MoveOn support this petition?

Dear MoveOn member,

A MoveOn member named Anita Not Alone Campaign recently created a petition on our public petition website entitled "Clarence Thomas Resign"–and we'd like to know what you think of it.

The petition is addressed to Clarence Thomas, Associate Supreme Court Justice, and reads:

Anita Hill told the truth and took a stand for justice. In return, Clarence Thomas got a seat for a lifetime. His resignation from the highest court in the land is 26 years overdue.

Sign Anita's petition.

Here's what Anita wrote about it:

Like falling dominoes, the accusers of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein trained a cascading spotlight on sexual predators. But it was Anita Hill who lifted the covers 26 years ago, bringing daylight to this rampant abuse. Anita Hill risked her reputation and personal standing to expose your vile and perverted behavior. She courageously took a stand for justice.

In return, you got a seat for a lifetime.

Today, justice is overdue for the undersigned petitioners – those who remember and a new generation then unborn. We who lived through your confirmation process believed Anita Hill then and we believe her now. We are also certain she was not alone. Where there is one target of abuse, for serial predators like you, there are many. The pattern and practice is to exact control, not because you desire, but simply because you can.

The truth about your misconduct cannot be erased. Although the all-male Senate panel shut down the debate in 1991, those voices that attempted to surface won't be muffled in 2017. The senators who were complicit in the shameful cover-up surely owe the nation an apology.

For you, Clarence Thomas, no apology is enough. Just resign.

Public scrutiny and public accountability have no statute of limitation. Decades have lapsed but the public trust still demands action. You were given a pass that has now expired. Your indignant denials, under oath before Congress, were perjury and grounds for your removal from the bench. Resign now to save the nation the wrenching turmoil of impeachment hearings.

We also call on your victims – before and after Anita Hill – to come forward, join us and speak out. They won't be muzzled or rebuked. You've enjoyed your day in court for 26 years: Now it's time for the women who survived your perversions to have theirs.

We stand with them in the court of public opinion.

From Hollywood to Alabama, from Fox News to NPR, from the halls of Congress to the stage of comedians, widespread sexual abuse is exposing a corrupt power dynamic. But none of those men enjoy the consequential measure and impact that you wield from your perch on the U.S. Supreme Court. Your influence in shaping laws, lives and untold practices, today and in the future, is far-reaching. Your damaging misconduct on and off the bench has been unchecked. You are unfit to serve. It's time to account.

Since 1991 justice has been delayed, but it can no longer be denied.

Clarence Thomas: Resign.

Can you click to let us know what you think?

I want to sign this petition.

I don't think MoveOn should support this petition.

We'll decide whether to send this petition out to additional MoveOn members in your area based on your feedback.

In case you haven't heard about it, MoveOn's petition site allows anyone to start an online petition and share it with friends and neighbors to build support for their cause.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition re: net neutrality

The FCC may destroy net neutrality protections on December 14. Sign the petition to defend a free and accessible internet.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week, we learned that the FCC is moving forward to repeal net neutrality rules that protect our free and open internet, with a December 14 vote. This proposal is a grave threat to the idea that the internet should be free and accessible for all. It's a danger to our economy and free speech rights, and we must defeat it.

Please sign my petition to defend net neutrality.

Don't let the FCC make a terrible mistake that would allow broadband providers to tilt the playing field by blocking or throttling their competitors, prioritizing their offerings, or otherwise unreasonably interfering with lawful content.

More than 8 million Americans have already submitted comments in response to the FCC's misguided proposal, including myself.

Our message has been clear: Broadband providers must not be allowed to tilt the playing field by blocking or throttling their competitors, prioritizing their offerings, or otherwise unreasonably interfering with lawful content.

The basic principle of net neutrality is that access to all websites and web services should be treated equally—that anyone can start their own website and make it accessible to anyone with internet access.

What the FCC wants to do is empower broadband service providers—the gatekeepers of the internet—to potentially distort the online marketplace and set up a pay-for-play system. This would be a terrible mistake that would hurt the most vulnerable and voiceless among us.

It will imperil our economy while reducing innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity. I have confidence that if enough of us come together in the next several weeks, we can make our voices heard and save the internet.

Click here to tell the FCC to keep the internet free and accessible for all.

Thanks!

Will you start a petition?

Petitions are powerful. Start a petition today to make your voice heard.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I'm Juan. I've been a MoveOn member as long as I can remember being politically engaged, from my early days of campus activism in Florida.

Chances are, you may have signed one of my petitions (MoveOn lets you start your own). Or maybe you've read one of my articles about what it's like to be a Dreamer at this particular moment in time—with DACA rescinded and immigrant families now the scapegoat de jour of the GOP. (Spoiler alert: it's tough!)

Tens of thousands of MoveOn members have signed onto my campaigns, and many times, we have won meaningful victories together against all odds! On the Dream Act, we are beginning to turn the tide toward what everyone said was impossible under Trump: getting both Democratic and Republican leaders to say that DACA youth must be protected before the holidays—so Dreamers (like myself) won't have to spend Christmas in fear.

But I'm not writing today to talk about the Dream Act (though if you do start a campaign about the Dream Act, you can message me on Twitter at @JuanSaaa to let me know).

I'm writing today to talk about how we continue to choose hope.

If you're like me, you know it's not easy to choose hope in the face of brutal attacks on health care, our tax and education system, the environment—there's just so much going terribly in the world right now. My family came from Venezuela when I was just eleven years old, and if I'm honest, the prospect of being "sent back" to a country that is in the middle of violent unrest, food shortages, and very possible economic collapse—it's given me a kind of anxiety that it is hard for my friends, family, and fellow Florida State alumni to imagine.

But the flip side of fear—and what keeps me going these days—is hope. Hope means not staying silent and small when fear creeps in. Hope means standing up, and speaking out, and demanding better, even when it isn't easy.

And this community—MoveOn—is all about that. It's why you renew my hope in what we can do when we refuse to let ourselves be stopped by fear—or caught up in the angry hatred we see every day in the news.

So, my fellow, inspiring MoveOn members, today I'm writing you to ask: What is it in your community that is calling on you to be courageously hopeful? What issue or challenge in our country is demanding that you speak up?

If there's something that's got you angry, fearful, or maybe even a bit hopeful, it's just a few small steps to start your own campaign now—and if your campaign takes off, you know we'll all have your back.

Earlier this year, I was moved by what our community can do when we come together, turn those who can vote out in unprecedented numbers, and reject the politics of fear and division—as we saw in Virginia and across the country on election day.

I was moved when I saw college students of all backgrounds walk out of their classes on November 9, to take over the Senate building and even risk arrest to say that we must pass a clean Dream Act by December, so immigrant youth like myself won't have to spend the holidays in fear of deportation.

So, what is it that moves you? What campaign will you start?

Thank you for keeping me hopeful.

Data guru

My name is Amy White. I've never emailed you before, so let me introduce myself: I'm the senior data analyst at MoveOn.

Dear MoveOn member,

My name is Amy White. I've never emailed you before, so let me introduce myself: I'm the senior data analyst at MoveOn.

I spend most of my time buried in spreadsheets, analyzing data, and solving complex math programs to help win campaigns.

Today, I wanted to share with you a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at a powerful voter engagement tool that I developed. MoveOn rolled it out in the spring, and it's been a vital tool in MoveOn's work to block Trumpcare this year.

And now—if we can roll it out more broadly—it could not only help win the urgent battle to stop Donald Trump and the GOP's tax scam (which has just passed the House and is headed for a major fight in the Senate), but would also play a major role in our election strategy in 2018.

It's a secret weapon, powered by math (but the exact math I won't give away ... it's secret!)

We've been calling this project "Amy's phone magic," which isn't really all that exciting. A better name might be "MoveOn's data-rific phone call fire hose."

Here's how it works: Using some data and a whole lot of math, we identify progressive-leaning voters in key districts with members of Congress who most need to hear from their constituents. Then, we make huge numbers of calls to alert those voters to what's happening and encourage them to get involved!

Imagine it: You're cooking dinner, and you get a phone call from a friendly MoveOn voice saying, "There's about to be a huge vote to give 1.5 trillion dollars in tax giveaways to corporations and the ultra-wealthy. Your senator is one of the deciding votes. Want to be connected to tell them to vote no?" You answer in the affirmative, get patched through, and your voice gets heard. Easy peasy, and you're back to your cooking.

We've already been using this tool—and it's been making a huge impact! But our impact is limited by the data we have. Now, we want to buy a national voter file, roll this program out to more districts, find more voters, help more progressives make their voices heard, and use this program to help win elections. Which is where you come in.

Can you chip in $3 now to help us ramp up this program to stop the GOP's tax scam, win the legislative fights ahead, and lay the groundwork for victory in 2018?

There is a big problem that our movement is facing right now: Hundreds of millions of people in this country share our values, but not all of them are—right this second—ready or able to go march in the streets, attend an event, or make a phone call. Figuring out who is tuned in, fired up, and ready to make their voice heard—and helping more people get to that place—is an eternal organizing challenge, and it can be the difference between winning and losing a close vote in Congress or a close election.

That's why we built a predictive analytic model that—if fully resourced—will ultimately let us reach tens of millions of voters who want to make their voices heard, and empower them to do just that, generating huge amounts of calls to Congress and other impactful campaigning activity.

So far, we've determined from our testing that this program is significantly more cost-effective, dollar for dollar, than if we were working with outside consultants to help identify the voters and power the technology generating these phone calls. But beyond that, we are able to reach more people than we can reach by traditional methods. We are truly expanding the realm of what's possible.

I love this program because MoveOn member dollars are now being stretched further, we're better able to beat back the organized forces of Big Money and the far right, and we're able to reach more people than ever before. But we can fully scale this up only with your help.

Will you chip in $3 and help us FLOOD Congress with calls to stop the GOP's tax scam right now, while we continue refining our models and methods so that we can win in 2018?

Using this technique, we powered 136,434 calls to stop Trumpcare that we couldn't have otherwise made. A volunteer phone bank fire hose!

We're using this secret weapon again to help win one of our top two priorities this fallto stop the GOP's tax scam. I have the key Senate states all loaded up in my system. Now, I need to know what size budget we have for this secret weapon.

That's where you come in.

Connecting a call costs us about $1.05. So if we can raise $105,000, we can make 100,000 more calls than we'd otherwise make as a progressive community to stop the Republican tax scam. Can you chip in now to help us reach that goal?

Yes! I'll chip in $3.15 to help connect 3 calls.

Yes! I'll chip in $21 to help connect 20 calls.

Yes! I'll chip in $78.75 to help connect 75 calls.

Or, click here to donate another amount.

Just think about it: Progressives have made hundreds of thousands of phone calls to defeat Trumpcare, but now we know that there are hundreds of thousands more concerned Americans who share our values that we could also activate to call—we just need the resources to reach them.

And these calls matter. Members of Congress use them to gauge sentiment in their districts, and as we have seen over the past year, the amount of pressure elected officials feel from their constituents can be the deciding factor in how they vote on legislation that impacts us all.

Which is why this new tool is now more important than ever and really could be our best weapon to stop the GOP's tax scam.

Now that you've looked under the hood, so to speak, can you chip in $3 and help us reach even more progressives to join the fight?

That's it. Back to my spreadsheets. I hope you'll chip in, Eddie—and thanks for all you do.

Amy White

P.S. I'm a little embarrassed by nicknames like "data guru" and "analytics whiz" for me and other members of my team. But if hearing those nicknames helps you have a bit of a sense of what we do and helps us power our secret weapon to stop the GOP's tax scam, then I'll put up with it!

Sign the petition re: Trophy hunting elephants

The Trump administration's decision to reverse Obama-era bans on the importation of elephant parts from animals trophy hunted in Zimbabwe and Zambia threatens the survival of these species. Please sign the petition to support a continued ban.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Trump administration has announced that they will end a ban on the importation of the remains of elephants hunted in Zimbabwe and Zambia.1 This action will encourage more killing of these already threatened animals.

Please sign the petition asking the Department of the Interior to maintain the ban on trophy hunters' importing endangered elephants' body parts into the United States.

The recent decision to reverse Obama-era bans on the importation of elephant parts from animals trophy hunted in Zimbabwe and Zambia threatens the survival of these species. Please reconsider this misguided decision and maintain the ban.

Reversing the ban now, when Zimbabwe is in political chaos and appears to have no ability or desire to protect its elephants, is outrageous and inexplicable.2 The Trump administration and Department of the Interior must reverse this decision and leave the ban in place.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

🚨 Red alert 🚨

BREAKING: House Republicans just passed one of the worst bills ever considered by Congress. Now, the fight moves to the Senate. We have to launch an urgent, all-hands-on-deck campaign to stop this bill from becoming law.

Dear MoveOn member,

BREAKING: House Republicans just passed one of the worst bills ever considered by Congress. Now, the fight moves to the Senate. We have to launch an urgent, all-hands-on-deck campaign to stop this bill from becoming law, so I am asking you to chip in right now to help us do it.

This is an emergency, and there is no time to waste.

The GOP tax scam has always been terrible, but this week things got worsemuch, much worse. It is not even fair to call this a "tax bill" anymoreit is now a backroom deal to destroy the Affordable Care Act, throw trillions of dollars at the GOP’s wealthy and corporate donors, and raise taxes on tens of millions of folks in the middle class.

And now, we've learned that the Senate version of the bill will include a repeal of the individual mandate requirement from the Affordable Care Act, which would rip health care from 13 million Americans, raise premiums by double digits for millions of others, and likely send the health care markets into a death spiral.1

Why are they doing this? Two reasons: First, it gives them one more shot to repeal Obamacare under the radar, without even introducing a plan to replace it. Second, they realized that, on paper, cutting the mandate superficially helps lower the massive deficits caused by their terrible bill, which may convince some Republican senators to vote yes.2

What they are doing is unconscionable, but it might work. There has not been the same amount of outrage about this bill as there was during the health care fight over the summer, and Republicans are counting on that lack of attention giving them the cover they need to pass this bill.

That is why we need you. Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford, to help us launch an urgent, all-out campaign to save Obamacare and stop middle-class tax hikes.

With your help, we will
  • We're melting down the phone lines in Washington, D.C., just like we did to defeat Trumpcare, using our innovative tools and targeting to drive constituent calls to key members of Congress. We have also mobilized a volunteer team to text hundreds of thousands of voters across the country and urge them to call key members of Congress.
  • We're organizing calls with MoveOn members to beat back this horrible legislation. We held a national organizing call with Sen. Bernie Sanders last night, just one day after the attack on health care was announced—to direct thousands of MoveOn members and allies into meaningful action.
  • We're launching a Week of Action November 29-December 2—where MoveOn members will organize hundreds of events around the country, outside congressional offices, and public spaces, to elevate the stories of constituents who will be hurt by this bill and build pressure on Congress to vote no.
  • We're gearing up for mega rallies. For example, on Trumpcare, we ran huge rallies with Bernie Sanders in key states, where Republican senators and House members may be wavering—to drive media about grassroots outrage and spur on more calls and actions. And we're laying the groundwork for high-profile rallies before Congress can finalize this bill.
  • We're producing videos, petitions, and social media content that drive home the costs of this tax scam—elevating constituents who would lose health care, middle-income families whose taxes would rise, and veterans, teachers, grad students and others who would pay more so the GOP can give corporations a giveaway.
  • And we're organizing rapid response actions in D.C. to make sure every Republican knows they will be held accountable if they vote to take health care from 13 million Americans, or to give 36 million middle income families a tax increase to pay for giveaways to corporations and billionaires.

Time is short. Click here to chip in $3 to help our emergency campaign now.

Thanks for all you do.

—Anna, Kelly, Vicki, Pulin and the rest of the team

P.S. This is a five-alarm fire, and we have to do everything we can to stop it. That means driving thousands of calls to members of Congress in key districts, creating ads, hosting events, and supporting other allies on the ground—just as we did over the summer to successfully stop those attempts at a health care repeal.

But all of that takes substantial funds, and we don’t have a lot of time to build up our reserves. Both the House and the Senate are planning to push this bill through before they leave for the holidays in early December. So if you made calls, organized, or donated during the last health care fight, we need you now.

Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford, to stop one of the worst bills ever considered by Congress from becoming the law of the land.

P.P.S. Don't forget: Not only does this bill destroy the Affordable Care Act, it also,

  • provides trillions of dollars in tax breaks to corporations and the ultra wealthy, while the majority of Americans making less than $100,000 a year will see no benefit or even have their taxes increased;3
  • will trigger a $25 billion cut to Medicare and deep cuts to Medicaid, due to the deficits that are created by the giveaways to corporations and the rich;4
  • cuts the medical expense deduction, which helps 9 million people with high medical costs—such as seniors in care facilities, parents of children with disabilities, and people with chronic conditions—many of whom are already struggling to get by5; and
  • even cuts the deduction used by teachers who pay for classroom supplies out of their own pocket. But don’t worry, corporations will still be able to deduct supply purchases from their taxes.6

Sign the petition re: $1,878,400,000 for the 1% in New York

Ben and Jerry here, founders of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. The GOP just released an outrageous tax scam. We need to tell Congress: Don't give rich folks a tax giveaway and put the burden of paying for it on everyone else in America.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Ben and Jerry here. The Ben and Jerry, founders of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. And we're writing you today about our simple request to Congress: Don't give rich folks—like us and Donald Trump—a tax giveaway and put the burden of paying for it on everyone else in America.

Republicans are currently rushing a tax scam through Congress that would be an enormous giveaway to corporations and the wealthiest Americans by putting the burden on everybody else. In New York alone, the richest 1% would receive $1,878,400,000 in tax breaks in 2018, if the proposed tax scam is passed. That's the equivalent of 306,928 health insurance premiums, 317,297 Pell Grants, or 17,807 infrastructure-related jobs in the state.1

We were fortunate and made a whole bunch of money making ice cream, and that's why we can say that slashing trillions from health care and education spending for regular Americans just to give people like us trillions more in tax breaks makes no sense. This tax scheme doesn't benefit everyone—it's designed to benefit guys like us (and those a lot richer than us)—and Trump. Because he'd be getting a tax break, too. (Can't say exactly how much of a tax break, since he won't show us his tax returns.)

So will you sign our petition to Congress that says:

Don't give massive tax cuts to corporations and the wealthiest Americans by taking trillions from everyone else. Medicare, Medicaid, education, job programs, and all of the other great things that the government pays for deserve MORE funding from the richest Americans, not massive cuts that would pay for tax cuts for corporations and the superrich.

We have been vocal about wanting the government to reduce spending, especially on our military budget. But this latest Republican scheme doesn't address military spending; it just ravages essential programs to give rich folks more money.

We need to oppose this plan completely—not one penny in tax giveaways to the wealthiest Americans and corporations and not one penny in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and education.

Add your name now. MoveOn will deliver this petition to Congress, and we'll work with elected officials who are Democrats, independents, and even Republicans to stop this ridiculous tax giveaway scheme.

Thanks!

RE: Bernie Sanders—Wednesday night! (Ready to Resist call)

Because you've subscribed to the Ready to Resist call series, we'll call you this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET to join the national organizing call with Sen. Bernie Sanders to defeat the Trump tax scam

Dear Eddie,

The Ready to Resist call—our series of national organizing conference calls—is back, this time with Senator Bernie Sanders!

Because you've subscribed to the Ready to Resist call series, we'll call you this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT) to join the national organizing call with Sen. Bernie Sanders to learn how we can defeat the Trump tax scam and to celebrate progressives' big election wins last week in Virginia and across the country.

And with news breaking this afternoon that the Senate's tax bill now includes a repeal of the health care individual mandate—which means 13 million would lose their health care by 2027 and rates for others will skyrocket—this call is an important opportunity to discuss strategy and move into action. This tax bill is now also the return of Trumpcare, but we can stop it if we organize.

Check out the great lineup of speakers on Wednesday's call:

  • Senator Bernie Sanders will break down how the GOP tax scam would transfer more than a trillion dollars in wealth from middle-class and working-class families to already-wealthy millionaires, billionaires, and corporations; what the state of play is in Washington; and real action we all can take where we live to stop this plan, just as we did with Trumpcare.

  • Mayor-elect Melvin Carter of St. Paul, Minnesota, will talk about last week's election victories and how we can carry that momentum into defeating the GOP tax plan. Mayor-elect Carter won election last Tuesday as St. Paul's first African-American mayor and has pledged to raise the city's minimum wage to $15 an hour. Minnesota is one of the states whose residents stand to lose the most under the GOP tax scam.

  • Joni Bruner, volunteer organizer with Alaska Grassroots Alliance, will report out from the Tax Rally & Hot Cocoa event she's leading today in Anchorage to persuade her two Republican senators to reject the tax scam that hurts Alaska residents.

  • Sunjeev Bery, campaign director with MoveOn.org, will discuss actions we can all take this month to stop the tax scam, now a return of Trumpcare.

  • Jennifer Epps-Addison, network president and co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, will host the call, and Joe Dinkin, national campaigns director with the Working Families Party, will celebrate last week's tremendous election wins and will walk through how we won them and what they mean for the tax fight and for 2018.

If you'd like to join the call, you don't need to take any action now; just mark your calendar to receive a phone call from the 202 area code tomorrow, Wednesday, November 15, at about 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT)! If you'd prefer to listen via your computer, just visit moveon.org/readytoresist at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT) tomorrow, Wednesday, November 15.

If you'd like to RSVP for the call with a different phone number than the one you may have originally RSVP'ed with, click here to update your subscription on this form.

If you know you can't join the call, not a problem; no action is needed.

And please help spread the word about the call!

Dear MoveOn member,

Republicans in Congress are racing to pass their tax scam—a massive giveaway to millionaires, billionaires, and corporations at the expense of everyone else. And they are trying to push it through the House this week, with the Senate following soon after.

Fortunately, there are actions we can take to stop this nightmare—just as we stopped Trumpcare again and again—but we have to act now.

That's why MoveOn is joining with Senator Bernie Sanders and People's Action, the Center for Popular Democracy, and the Working Families Party on a national organizing call this Wednesday, November 15 at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT) to discuss how we can confront and defeat this bill together.

Click here to join Bernie Sanders on Wednesday night's "Ready to Resist" call on stopping the Trump Tax Scam.

Join the Bernie Sanders' call this Wednesday

Here's how bad this tax scam is: This bill would

  • increase taxes on many middle-class families
  • end deductions that support veterans, teachers, people with student loans, and folks with serious medical conditions (and the Senate version would actually eliminate ALL deductions for state and local taxes);
  • lead to deep cuts in health care, education, and environmental protection; and
  • move more than a trillion dollars to the wealthiest Americans and corporations.

Republicans don't need a single Democratic vote to force it through the House and Senate. But we've seen these odds before—and beaten them.

This is the same scenario we faced with Trumpcare—and we accomplished the impossible. We overcame the odds and stopped a horrific bill that would've hurt regular Americans for the sake of giveaways to the rich.

Sound familiar?

On this Wednesday's call, we'll hear about the strategy to defeat this Republican scheme—from Sen. Bernie Sanders who will share the stakes of the fight, and from organizers who will talk through how Americans everywhere can effectively plug into this campaign in the critical weeks ahead.

Click here to RSVP for the Ready to Resist call on defeating the Trump Tax Scam—with Sen. Sanders and other guests—this Wednesday, November 15. You can join by phone or by computer.

This is the latest in the Ready to Resist series, which ran 15 Sunday-night national organizing calls through the spring and summer.

So join the call—then join us in the streets, on the phones, and over social media as we fight to defeat the Trump Tax Scam.

Click here to RSVP for Wednesday night's call.

Thanks for all you do.

–Sunjeev, Emma, Ben, Gabriela, and the rest of the team

P.S. Fired up to defeat the Republicans' bill? In addition to joining the national call Wednesday night, you can also sign up to host a "Tax Scam Caroling" accountability action between Wednesday, November 29 and Saturday, December 2—a critical week when Republicans will be trying to vote on their bill. MoveOn members and allies will be hosting events to stand up to the scrooges behind this morally bankrupt tax scam at a key moment when our actions could stop it. Just click here to host an event near you—MoveOn staff and volunteers will support you every step of the way.

FW: Fighting tooth and nail

I'm fighting tooth and nail to defeat the new Republican tax scam making its way through Congress.

Hi, Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw my important message from the other day.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm fighting tooth and nail to defeat the new Republican tax scam making its way through Congress.

I'm fighting this because the Republican tax scam could be another nail in the coffin for America's middle class. It's a 1.5-trillion-dollar tax giveaway—the biggest tax giveaway to giant corporations in modern history. It's a bill so insulting to working families that it actually gives Wells Fargo—the company that created millions of fake accounts to cheat its customers—the largest tax break of all.

Here's the problem: I can't stop this Republican tax scam by myself. My fellow Democrats in Congress and I can't stop the Republicans by ourselves either—we just don't have the votes.

But the health care fight proved this: The power isn't in Congress; the power is with you. You are the only firewall that will keep these cruel, vicious, and un-American GOP bills off of Donald Trump's desk. That's why I'm asking you to fight with us, Eddie. Are you in?

Click here to chip in $3 to help support MoveOn's campaign to stop the Republicans' cruel, vicious, and un-American budget and tax plans.

Will America become a country that rips away health care and other essential services from tens of millions of Americans in order to give tax breaks to millionaires, billionaires, and giant corporations?

I'll be honest: If the Republicans and their wealthy donors have their way, it might.

But there's a way to prevent that from happening—a path to victory. It's called the Resistance.

Earlier this year, the Resistance defeated Trumpcare by peeling off just three Republican votes in the Senate. When the vote was over in the middle of the night I ran out of the Capitol building and celebrated with Resistance members from MoveOn who were holding an all-night rally.

It's you—the grassroots Resistance—who led the charge and made that victory possible.

We've seen again and again that a determined and persistent grassroots movement can win. Now, I'm asking for your help to make sure that MoveOn has the resources it needs to lead the movement to victory once again. That'll take an all-hands-on-deck, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop the Republican tax and budget plans.

Click here to chip in $3 and join the fight to stop the Republicans' cruel, vicious, and un-American budget and tax plans.

I'm in this fight because the stakes could not be higher.

Public education, Social Security, food stamps, Medicaid—they're all under attack. Money for children's health care, money to combat the opioid epidemic, money for medical research, money for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting—that funding and so much more would face devastating cuts.

All of these devastating losses for working families just to give even bigger tax cuts to millionaires, billionaires, and multinational corporations.

You and I know that we can't build the future by starving education, letting our roads crumble and bridges collapse, throwing Americans off of their health insurance, or shutting down the big pipeline of medical and scientific research in this country.

But Republicans want to do just that—and they have the votes to do it, without needing a single Democratic vote. But we can stop them by making their tax scam politically toxic.

We can't give up hope just because we're in the minority. We overcame that challenge to defeat Trumpcare again and again. And I believe that we can do the same here.

I pledge to you that I will continue doing everything that I can, because this fight may be the most important fight in a generation for America's middle class. But I need you to fight alongside me. We need you to make calls, tell your story, show up in person and rally, volunteer, and chip in, too.

Will you join me in the fight for the heart and soul of America by clicking here to chip in $3 to support MoveOn's all-hands-on-deck push to stop the Republican budget and protect America's heart and soul.

I remember a time when American society worked for working people. After my daddy had a heart attack and was out of work for a long time, my mother—who was 50 years old at the time—got a minimum-wage job at Sears. Back then, a minimum-wage job could keep a family of three afloat.

That was possible because I grew up in an America that invested in families like mine. But if Trump and the Republicans in Congress have their way and make deeper cuts for working families to give more to those at the top, stories like mine will never be possible again.

I'm in this fight because I believe in an America that works for all of us. I hope you'll join me.

Thanks for all you do.

–Senator Elizabeth Warren
