This wasn't the year Trump expected

What a year. MoveOn members and the broader Resistance movement powered stunning victories in 2017—legislatively, electorally, and culturally—and momentum is on our side heading into 2018.

Dear MoveOn member,

What a year. MoveOn members and the broader Resistance movement powered stunning victories in 2017—legislatively, electorally, and culturally—and momentum is on our side heading into 2018.

We must be clear-eyed about the damage Trump and Republicans have already inflicted on our country and the damage they continue to do. But we can also know that our work together has slowed, and even stopped, parts of their vicious agenda. Thank you for being part of a movement that took to the streets, hit the phones, and filled social media and TV airwaves—and for all you did with MoveOn throughout 2017. And thank you for continuing to fight with as much commitment and impact in the year ahead.

Please watch and share this short video that captures some of what we accomplished together, against all odds, over the past year—and how we’ve set the stage for the year to come.

The Resistance in 2017

(Not on Facebook? You can click here to watch the video on YouTube as well.)

We can't sugarcoat it: Real harm has resulted from Trump's and the Republicans' actions—attacks on immigrant communities, Muslims, women's rights, the LGBTQ community, and so many more; rollbacks of environmental regulations; and the recent destructive tax scam, to name a few examples.

But again and again, we confronted—and even defeated—this radical agenda. 2017 was the year of the Resistance—and we can remember this as the year when:

  • We helped defend access to health care for tens of millions of people.
  • We helped propel stunning election upsets in Virginia and Alabama.
  • We stood with communities on the front lines of Trump's attacks—fighting for Dreamers, against Trump’s racist and unconstitutional Muslim Ban, and against the white supremacists in the streets of Charlottesville and the halls of the White House.
  • MoveOn members contributed millions of dollars directly for hurricane relief efforts for our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas.
  • We helped force the recusal of Jeff Sessions from the Trump-Russia investigation and have propelled the demands to protect the investigation—and even consider impeachment—into the heart of public discourse.
  • We helped build and wire an incredible grassroots network to respond if Robert Mueller is fired (over 175,000 people have already committed to join protests if needed), or if Trump tries to rush us into a new war.
  • We stiffened the spines of elected Democrats and showed Republicans the price they’ll pay at the ballot box in 2018 for scamming their constituents to give handouts to billionaire donors and giant corporations.

And so much more.

None of this was inevitable.

The year began with Trump declaring he’d build a border wall. Congressional Republicans promised Obamacare repeal the day after the Inauguration. Trump appointed white nationalists to positions of power. Too many Democrats seemed poised to treat the administration as business as usual, rubber-stamping early Cabinet nominees.

Then we, collectively, showed up—with historic crowds at the Women’s March and sister marches, at airport protests, and at district offices of members of Congress, with floods of phone calls to Congress and packed town halls around the country—and eventually at the ballot box in Virginia and Alabama. And the Resistance is still rising—as we continue to confront the Republican and Wall Street agenda, demand that Trump and his cohorts be held accountable for corruption and collusion, and set the stage to win Congress in 2018 and sweep in dynamic, diverse, inspirational candidates at all levels of office to fight for all of us.

For all the damage Republicans have inflicted, we’ve resisted and defeated them just as often. Polls have swung wildly against Republicans in next year’s congressional races, Trump’s approval ratings are at an all-time low, more and more Republican incumbents are announcing their retirement, members of Trump’s Cabinet and inner circle have been forced to resign amid corruption scandals and are facing popular outcries, and more of his closest advisers are coming under scrutiny by an investigation that the Resistance called for and has, thus far, helped protect.

This has been the year of the Resistance, not the year of the GOP, and we’ve set the stage for an even bigger year to come. Check out and share our short video about what we were able to accomplish this year against the backdrop of this dark political moment and what we can achieve together in 2018.

Throughout this year, MoveOn members were a crucial part of the Resistance—and we showed up at an unprecedented scale. Take a look at these numbers we were responsible for, together:

  • Nearly 1 million phone calls to Congress
  • More than 250,000 people joining Ready to Resist national organizing calls
  • More than 100,000 people—MoveOn members, members of partner organizations, and Americans of all walks of life—attending town hall meetings during February’s Resistance Recess; and tens of thousands more attending local MoveOn events over the rest of the year
  • 1,000 Mobilizers trained in MoveOn’s Resistance Summer program and now organizing in their communities and laying the groundwork for 2018
  • More than 2,000,000 texts sent by volunteers to MoveOn members and voters, to recruit volunteers, urge calls to Congress, and get out the vote
  • 16 million signatures on petitions, leading to victories in Washington, D.C., in corporate boardrooms, and in local fights for progress
  • 285 million views on 536 videos produced by MoveOn’s Video Lab, which were shared by MoveOn members 3.7 million times
  • More than $3.7 million donated directly to hurricane relief efforts
  • 1 million individual donations from MoveOn members to support all this work

In what is likely one of the darkest political moments many of us have experienced, we—together with Americans of all walks of life, from women donning pink hats to Dreamers courageously risking their futures, and so many more—helped light the spark of Resistance that has yielded light and hope throughout 2017.

We're ready for 2018. Together, we'll march to the ballot box, resist Trump and the GOP's ongoing attacks, build our movement's strength and capacity, and invest in the leadership of the future through our work up and down the ballot. That's what this moment calls for. And we know we can do it, because MoveOn members have been showing up every day to resist—and to persist.

So thank you for all you have been doing—thank you for all you are doing—to meet the challenges of this moment and to turn the tide, together.

With gratitude, hope, and determination,

–Anna and the entire MoveOn team

My plans for 2018

This is former Labor Secretary Robert Reich. I've been a MoveOn member for many years. And since 2009, MoveOn and I have partnered on making videos—most recently on Trumpcare (which MoveOn members played a huge role in defeating), voter suppression, the Supreme Court, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Dreamers, and the GOP's tax scam—which, outrageously, just passed and which we'll need to fight to overturn together.

Hi, fellow MoveOn member!

I'm proud to have made these videos with MoveOn. The videos have been seen millions of times and have truly helped progressives shift the debate—and win—on critical issues.

After years of making videos with MoveOn, I wanted to do even more. So, I decided to "go big" and launch my own nonprofit—called Inequality Media—to make even more videos, engage the public in more discussions, and have an even bigger impact.

Since starting up this nonprofit, we've made 123 videos that have been viewed over 280 million times. Thirty-six of those videos were made in collaboration with MoveOn. Many of the others have been made with other great advocacy and organizing partners. And we've done all that on a shoestring budget, operating with just four staff members.

With more funds, I'm confident that we can reach many more Americans and be even more impactful. That's why I'm writing to you today.

Would you consider making a tax-deductible gift today to support my nonprofit organization, Inequality Media, as we continue to partner with MoveOn and make our own videos, too?

At Inequality Media, we strive to create videos with clear, factual, and engaging information on the economy, the environment, civil rights, education, health care, the federal budget, and our democratic institutions.

In addition to all that, we also post timely information on our Facebook page and stream live discussions, including the "Resistance Report." We even co-produced a full-length documentary, "Saving Capitalism," which is now streaming on Netflix.

Our goal at Inequality Media is to provide clear and factual information about the economy and policy. At a time when those in power are spreading dangerous and hateful lies, this mission is more important than ever. We must come together to resist lies and hateful rhetoric and stand up for truth, equality, and democracy.

I would be grateful if you would support Inequality Media and help us continue our work as we head into 2018. Since we're a section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your donation to Inequality Media will be tax-deductible.

It's individual donations from people like you that will allow us to continue doing our work and grow as we head into 2018. Your support will enable us to spread the truth, strengthen democracy, and inspire meaningful action toward a better future for all Americans.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich

A reckoning is coming

I'm angry. The American people are angry. And we're right to be angry. The GOP tax scam that Congress just passed is government for sale.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm angry. The American people are angry. And we're right to be angry.

The GOP tax scam that Congress just passed is government for sale. It's a gigantic payoff to the wealthy campaign contributors who have funded Republican campaigns for years. And it's a slap in the face to the working people who trusted that their Congress would put their interests first.

Let me tell you something: This fight is not over.

My pledge to you is that as long as I sit in the U.S. Senate, I will work to overturn this moral atrocity and make sure giant corporations finally pay their fair share.

I will never back down. That's why powerful corporate interests are already getting ready to come after me and my allies, Senators Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin, in the fight against corporate greed. We're all up for reelection in 2018, and they know that if they can get rid of us, their tax breaks will be secure.

Can you chip in $3 to help me, Sherrod, and Tammy win our reelection campaigns—and fight together to overturn the GOP tax scam? Click here now if you can.

Tammy and Sherrod represent Wisconsin and Ohio, two of the swing states that went to Donald Trump in the last election. If Democrats are going to come back into power, these are states we absolutely must win, and Tammy and Sherrod are the kinds of progressive populists who have proven they can win over working-class voters.

As for me, Wall Street painted a target on my back the minute I arrived in Washington. One Super PAC launched a $10 million effort six months ago with "just one single purpose—the absolute, immediate, and total defeat of Elizabeth Warren by any means necessary."

Things aren't any easier for Tammy. She's one of only two statewide Democrats left in Wisconsin, and the Koch brothers are already spending millions of dollars to defeat her.1

The same is true for Sherrod in Ohio. As the top Democrat on the Banking Committee, Sherrod has worked tirelessly to hold big banks accountable and level the playing field for working families. Outside groups spent $40 million trying to get rid of him in 2012.2 He beat them the last time around. If we stand together now, he'll beat them again.

The tax bill that the Republicans jammed through last week isn't reform. It's a heist. A reckoning is coming. And when it does, the politicians who voted for this tax heist will be held accountable for turning their backs on the American people. And then—with your help—Tammy, Sherrod, and I will be there to pick up the pieces, repair the damage, and make corporations finally pay their fair share.

Click here now to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to help me, Sherrod, and Tammy win our elections next year, undo this moral atrocity, and lead a progressive wave that wins control of the Senate win our elections next year.

Thanks for all you do.

–Senator Elizabeth Warren

Thank Sen. Gillibrand for standing with Dreamers!

30 senators stood with Dreamers and refused to pass a GOP spending bill. Let's thank them for their courage.

Dear New York MoveOn member,

As people across the country—and around the world—have been enjoying the holiday season, millions of Dreamers and their family members here in the United States have had to spend the holidays in fear and uncertainty. Congress failed to pass the popular, bipartisan Dream Act last week—kicking the can down the road and putting more Dreamers at risk every day.

But last Thursday, 30 members of the Democratic caucus in the Senate stood with Dreamers—and refused to pass a Republican spending bill that didn't include the Dream Act. These senators—including Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand—had the courage to say they wouldn't vote for a deportation budget, and that Congress had a duty to resolve this crisis.

The spending bill passed with the entirety of the Republican caucus and 17 members of the Democratic caucus. But we need to make sure we let Sen. Gillibrand know that constituents in New York stand with her in the fight to pass a clean Dream Act.

Can you call to thank Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for voting against the GOP spending bill and for standing with Dreamers?

Here's where to call:

  • Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand
    • Albany, NY: 518-431-0120
    • Buffalo, NY: 716-854-9725
    • Lowville, NY: 315-376-6118
    • Mahopac, NY: 845-875-4585
    • New York, NY: 212-688-6262
    • Melville, NY: 631-249-2825
    • Rochester, NY: 585-263-6250
    • Syracuse, NY: 315-448-0470

Then click here to tell us how the call went.

122 Dreamers lose their legal protections through DACA every day—nearly 14,000 since Donald Trump ended the successful program in September. And many more worry they'll face the threat of deportation, uncertain whether they can continue their lives in the U.S.

Every time Congress delays action, it's punishing more and more Dreamers and their families.

Congress will need to vote on another spending bill by January 19. Once again, this will be a key moment for all senators and representatives to say no to any spending bill until Congress passes the Dream Act. And in January, we'll rely on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to demand a Dream Act and vote no on any spending bill that doesn't include one.

So let's tell Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand that we'll have her back as we all stand with Dreamers.

Here's where to call:

  • Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand
    • Albany, NY: 518-431-0120
    • Buffalo, NY: 716-854-9725
    • Lowville, NY: 315-376-6118

    • New York, NY: 212-688-6262
    • Melville, NY: 631-249-2825
    • Rochester, NY: 585-263-6250
    • Syracuse, NY: 315-448-0470

Thanks for all you do.

5 p.m. today in Brooklyn: Rally for the Dream Act

Will you join? Tonight, immigrant youth, families, and allies will rally outside Sen. Schumer's Brooklyn home to support the Dream Act.

YOU'RE INVITED!
March and rally in Brooklyn for a clean Dream Act!

Where: Grand Army Plaza in brooklyn, ny
When: Saturday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
What:

"No Holiday Cheer for Us? No Holiday Cheer for You!" Join immigrant youth, their families, community leaders, and allies to march from Grand Army Plaza to Senator Chuck Schumer's Brooklyn home in support of a clean Dream Act now.

Thursday night, Congress—again—failed to stand with Dreamers and pass a clean Dream Act. Members of Congress, including 17 Senate Democrats, voted to deport Dreamers and opted to head home to their own families while 800,000 Dreamers and their families are forced to spend their holidays in fear and uncertainty.

As Senate Minority Leader, Senator Schumer promised to deliver a clean Dream Act this year. Thanks to inspiring organizing by immigrant youth, thirty Senate Democrats voted the right way Thursday, but Sen. Schumer failed to unite his caucus and use their leverage, and ultimately stalled once again on passing a clean Dream Act.

It's been almost four months since Trump terminated the DACA program, and 122 immigrant youth are losing their DACA protection every single day. Despite vast and growing bipartisan support for the Dream Act, Congress still hasn't taken action.

Join immigrant youth and families from Make the Road New York, New York Immigration Coalition, MoveOn, United We Dream, Indivisible Nation BK, CREDO, Working Families Party, Bend the Arc Jewish Action, Women's March, and more as we deliver this message to Sen. Schumer: "No holiday cheer for us? No holiday cheer for you!"

Let's close out 2017 letting Sen. Schumer know the Resistance is strong, here to stay, and demands a clean Dream Act now!

Will you be there as our joyful, peaceful crowd brings this critical message in the holiday spirit?

Join the march and rally for a clean Dream Act!

A person holding a sign! YES, I'LL BE THERE! People holding signs!

By choosing to attend this event, you are committing to participate nonviolently and in accordance with the law, to work to de-escalate confrontations with others, and to obey the orders of authorized event marshals and of law enforcement. You also acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any injury or damage to your person or property resulting from or occurring during this event, and that you release all event sponsors and organizers (and their officers, directors, employees, and agents) from any liability for that injury or damage.

Saturday in Brooklyn: No holiday cheer for us? No holiday cheer for you, Sen. Schumer!

Let's close out 2017 with a final act of peaceful Resistance! Sen. Schumer made a commitment to bring relief to the young people known as Dreamers before the year expires. Last night, he failed us.

Dear New York MoveOn member,

Today, members of Congress head home to relax for the holidays while 800,000 Dreamers fear being torn from their families. This is not what New York Senator Chuck Schumer, leader of the Senate Democrats, promised.

That's why tomorrow, Saturday, immigrant youth and families and their allies will rally outside Sen. Schumer’s Brooklyn home over the Dream Act. We can't wait another day!

Will you join? Will you be there Saturday to greet Sen. Schumer as he returns to New York—and as 2017 comes to a close, show him the Resistance is strong and here to stay?

Here are the details:

What: Rally for the Dream Act in front of Sen. Schumer's house: "No Holiday Cheer for Us? No Holiday Cheer for You, Sen. Schumer!"
When: Tomorrow, Saturday, December 23, 5 p.m.
Where: Gather at Grand Army Plaza (under the arch), Brooklyn
Hosted by: Make the Road New York, Working Families Party, MoveOn, Indivisible Nation BK, The New York Immigration Coalition, CREDO, United We Dream, and more!

RSVP now and say you'll be there to greet Sen. Schumer to demand the Dream Act!

We hoped to gather to celebrate Sen. Schumer's successful passage of a clean Dream Act, with no border militarization or interior enforcement provisions, as part of the congressional spending bill negotiations.

But, since Sen. Schumer failed last night to lead his Democratic caucus to bring home the Dream Act, our mood will be somber, as we will speak out to hold him accountable for failing to use his leverage to secure the legislation that our youth and families so desperately need.

On Tuesday, hundreds of young immigrants and families rallied in front of Sen. Schumer’s Manhattan offices to demand that he bring home a clean Dream Act before the end of the year, which he promised to do this fall. They also delivered nearly 250,000 petitions to his Manhattan offices.

One week ago, seven Senate Democrats had pledged to only vote for the spending bill if it included a clean Dream Act. Thousands of young people from across the country dropped everything this week to travel to D.C. to appeal to members of Congress through actions that motivated and captivated the whole country. Together we cranked up the phone calls, and held vigils and rallies.

And last night, 30 Senate Democrats withheld their votes since Republicans failed to address the crisis Trump created when he ended the popular DACA program. But 17 Senate Democrats voted with Republicans to deport Dreamers.

It's Sen. Schumer's job to hold his caucus together, and he failed.

Spread the word and join immigrant youth and allies this Saturday as we greet Sen. Schumer back home in Brooklyn and as we send a reminder to ALL Democrats that the Resistance is ready for 2018! RSVP here on Facebook and share with your friends!

More than 13,000 Dreamers have lost their DACA status over recent months since Trump cruelly ended the popular program, and each day another 122 more lose their DACA status.

Put simply: Voting yes last night on the spending bill without a clean Dream Act is a vote to deport Dreamers. Congress was wrong to go home for the holidays without making things right for Dreamers.

The Dream Act is supported by a wide majority of Democrats and Republicans alike, and by wide margins, MoveOn members in several key senate states said this week that they'd support a primary challenger to Democrats who vote for a GOP spending bill without Congress fixing DACA by passing a clean Dream Act.1

We know that our rallies, our marches, our calls, and our actions are making a difference. In January of this year, when Sen. Schumer seemed inclined to work with Republicans instead of modeling fierce opposition to their toxic agenda, local organizations marched on his home in a high-profile, memorable action that showed Sen. Schumer the strength of the Resistance—and soon after, he began rejecting Trump's nominees and taking a harder line on his policies.

Democrats made a commitment to resolve this moral crisis. Sen. Schumer failed to deliver on his promises, and he needs to hear from us.

We want to tell him clearly that while he is returning home to be with his family for the holidays, many members of our community are going to have what may be their last holiday season together.

RSVP now to say you'll be there Saturday.

Thanks for all you do.

If Trump fires Mueller ...

MoveOn members are stepping up to defend Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation. And we're out in force! Can you sign up now to host or attend an action?

MoveOn members are stepping up to defend Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation. And we're out in force! Can you sign up now to host or attend an action? MoveOn members are stepping up to defend Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation. And we're out in force! Can you sign up now to host or attend an action?

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump, Fox News, and the GOP are coming for Special Counsel Robert Mueller—looking to upend the federal criminal investigation into possible collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential election, and subsequent efforts to cover it up.

That's why MoveOn members and our allies from 25 major national organizations are out in force, preemptively planning "Nobody Is Above the Law" rapid-response actions across the country, ready to deploy if Trump fires Mueller.

This collective organizing is a powerful signal to Trump and the GOP that people in cities and towns across the nation are paying attention to the attacks on Mueller and are ready to defend our democracy and the rule of law. And the actions are already earning national media attention with headlines such as "Americans Will March in the Streets in 48 U.S. States If Trump Fires Robert Mueller."1

There are almost 600 actions nationwide—now in all 50 states—with an unprecedented 100,000 people pledged to attend.2 Let's double the number of possible attendees, and let's make sure there are actions to defend the Mueller investigation in every state in the nation.

Click here to find an action in your local area, and if you don't see one, please consider signing up to host. (MoveOn's team will be with you every step of the way.)

Six months ago, when Mueller was put in charge of the Trump-Russia investigation, Republicans were glowing about his record and fitness for the task. But now that the investigation has landed its first guilty pleas, attacks on Mueller and the investigation are coming from all parts of the GOP message machine.3

Trump himself has thrown a relentless barrage of insults and threats at Mueller and the investigation.4

Trump's lawyers have even called for an absurd second special counsel to investigate the investigation.5 And right-wing pundits on Fox News have been acting as wingmen, creating scandals out of thin air and casting doubt.

As Mueller digs deeper and deeper into Trump's finances and possible obstruction of justice, the risk that Trump will take unilateral action only increases.6

So here's the plan: If Trump fires Mueller before 2:00 p.m. local time on any given day, MoveOn members and our allies will be in the streets at 5:00 p.m. local time the same day. If news breaks later in the day, we will rally at noon the following day.

Our response in the hours following an authoritarian move to put Trump above the law will help drive the national media narrative and could certainly help determine whether we're able to make sure Congress holds Trump accountable.

Click here to find a "Nobody Is Above the Law" action in your local area. And if you don't see one, please consider signing up to host.

MoveOn members have been a first line of defense against Trump's corruption for more than a year, helping to win Steve Bannon's removal, force Jeff Sessions' recusal from the Trump-Russia investigation, and shine a relentless light on Republican hypocrisy.7

By packing congressional hearing rooms and generating hundreds of thousands of petition signatures and tens of thousands of calls, we've also ensured that Democrats in Congress know we'll have their backs when they step up to fight Trump's corruption and demand the truth about Trump-Russia that our nation both deserves and desperately needs.

Most recently, we've helped champion bipartisan legislation in Congress to prevent Trump from firing Mueller. And we'll continue to do this kind of dogged, proactive work, so that we hopefully never have to respond to a firing of the team investigating the president. But with the stakes this high for our country, we need to simultaneously prepare for the kind of constitutional crisis that would occur should Trump fire Mueller.

Together, we're saying through our actions—again and again—that no one is above the law and that we're prepared to defend our democracy—for as long as it takes.

Can you share your Dream?

Will you upload a photo of your "Our Dreams Unite Us" sticker out in the world?

Dear MoveOn member,

This week, more than 100,000 beautiful, iconic "Our Dreams Unite Us" stickers are arriving in mailboxes across the country, spreading the message that it's time for Congress to pass a clean Dream Act before December 22, so that Dreamers don't have to spend the holidays in fear.

By now, the stickers you ordered should have arrived. Will you share a pic of your sticker out in the world to help spread the word? We'll share pics of your stickers to inspire others.

If sharing on Twitter, be sure to use the hashtag #DreamActNow and mention @MoveOn so we can see your tweet and possibly share it out wider on our own Twitter account!

Sample language you can use for your tweet:
"I just received amazing #DreamActNow stickers from @MoveOn! Congress needs to pass a clean Dream Act before the year ends. Call Congress now: (844) 334-5991"

If sharing on Facebook, be sure to make your picture public, use the hashtag #DreamActNow, and let people know to call their representatives at (844) 334-5991 to pass a clean Dream Act! If you would like, you can also tag some friends you think will be impressed by the art.

Sample Facebook post language you can use:
I just received these powerful #DreamActNow stickers from MoveOn! We need to make sure Congress passes a clean Dream Act before the year is out. Can you make a call to Congress to help? (844) 334-5991

These stickers, with their beautiful and clear moral message, could not have arrived at a more urgent moment. Over the next few days, it's critical that our elected leaders of both major parties, the media, and our neighbors all feel the urgency for a clean Dream Act—and these stickers are a compelling, visual way to convey that message.

Right now, Congress has the power to pass a clean Dream Act that would protect two million immigrant youth from the fear of deportation. And every day that Congress fails to act, 122 Dreamers lose their DACA status—putting them at risk of deportation by Donald Trump's immigration force. Since September, when Trump ended the successful DACA program, more than 12,000 Dreamers have lost their status and, with it, their sense of security, safety, and ability to plan for the future.

But despite overwhelming support for this important legislation and the urgent need to pass it, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan have so far refused to bring the Dream Act to a vote by Congress. Now, as the year winds down, Congress has one last opportunity to pass the Dream Act before adjourning for the year.

That's why MoveOn members like you have stepped up in this crucial moment. Powerful videos created by MoveOn's videolab have been viewed more than 10 million times, and more than 250,000 people signed a petition to Congress demanding a clean Dream Act Now. MoveOn members have made more than 20,000 calls to Congress demanding action, and took part in dozens of legislative visits during the congressional recess—from Texarkana, TX, to Syracuse, NY.

Placing your sticker somewhere prominent will continue to build on the momentum needed to force Congress to act—and you'll show your community how much support there is for Dreamers. And sharing your photo online amplifies that impact.

If you haven't received your sticker yet, we're sorry! When you send 100,000 stickers across the country, a few are bound to be missing. Please email customer support at help@moveon.org so that we can get your sticker on its way.

Thanks for all you do.

This is a moral outrage. Hold Republicans accountable.

We must ensure that Republicans up and down the ballot are defeated in a landslide of historic proportions.

Dear MoveOn member,

Now that Republicans have rammed through their massive giveaway to corporate and billionaire donors, what's next?

It's simple, really: We must ensure that Republicans up and down the ballot are defeated in a landslide of historic proportions. To make that happen, in early 2018, MoveOn is launching a $15 million plan to win control of the House and Senate in next year's midterm elections and to stop Donald Trump and the GOP.

We need your help to make crucial upfront investments and then see the plan through, which is why I'm asking for your ongoing support.

Will you chip in $5 a month and become a founding member of MoveOn's 2018 "Resist and Win" election program? Just click here.

Republicans, who lost the popular vote in 2016, had no base of popular support to pass this unpopular and costly tax giveaway to their 1-percent supporters. And they have no mandate. The bill is extremely unpopular, with just 33% of Americans supporting it.1 And, outrageously, 14 Republican senators will personally benefit from provisions shoehorned into the bill—as will Trump and his family.2

Now, it's up to us to make sure that Republicans pay the price for passing this bill. According to recent polling, Democrats have a 15-point lead over Republicans in a generic ballot for the House—Democrats biggest advantage so far.3 Meanwhile, Trump's approval rating has sunk to 32 percent—the lowest since he took office.4

Unpopularity this deep has the potential to result in a wave election that throws Republicans out of office at all levels.

We can take back the House and even the Senate and win seats in state legislatures across the country, if numbers like these hold. But that will only happen if voters turn out to vote. And in midterm election years, turnout is generally lower than in presidential election years—which is why what we do together is poised to make a huge difference.

Our "Resist and Win" election plan includes a massive mobilization powered by MoveOn's millions of members, in every state and congressional district. We will do everything possible, together, to ensure that voters turn out, vote, and throw Republicans out of office.

To reach voters, we will send text messages, knock on doors, donate to and volunteer to elect compelling candidates, train activists in electoral and movement organizing skills on an unprecedented scale, create videos, leverage social media networks, shape media coverage, and mobilize together in ways that have measurable and critical impact.

Can you chip in $5 a month and become a founding member of MoveOn's 2018 "Resist and Win" election program?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly and help kick Republicans out of office in 2018.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

We need to help build a grassroots movement big enough to cause a Republican landslide defeat. Here's how we plan to do just that:

  • Endorse candidates all over the country in 2018. MoveOn members expect to endorse and support at least 100 candidates for the House, Senate champions, and 100 down-ballot candidates in state and local elections.
  • Build on to the tactics and technology that we developed and tested in 2017—tactics in the areas of recruitment, training, voter persuasion, mobilization, organizing, social media, mobile tools, tech, analytics, and video that helped lead to victories in Virginia and Alabama. In 2017, with partners, MoveOn led a series of "Ready to Resist" mass mobilizing calls that regularly engaged tens of thousands of MoveOn members and also organized a "Resistance Summer" training program that supported 1,000 MoveOn members across the country as they developed powerful organizing skills. MoveOn members mobilized and trained through these actions will play a key role in winning back power in 2018.
  • Put new tools and technology to work to win more elections. To help drive landslide victories, MoveOn's analytics team and Video Lab pioneered innovative social media persuasion testing and delivery technology that proved effective at persuading and turning out thousands of voters in both Virginia and Alabama. In addition, MoveOn’s tech and mobile teams developed a new peer-to-peer messaging platform, Spoke, that has already been responsible for mobilizing 60,000 grassroots actions. We will continue refining these tools to win in 2018.
  • Keep resisting and pushing for policies we believe in. Although Republicans have now passed one major piece of legislation, the Resistance has propelled substantial victories. We have repeatedly beaten back full repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Trump hasn't gotten his border wall. And, for the time being, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are safe—though the Tax Scam increases the threat to them, and we must fight to protect them. In the months and years ahead, we will push for our positive agenda—including, right now, the Dream Act.

Can you chip in $5 a month and become a founding member of MoveOn's 2018 "Resist and Win" program? Your ongoing support will help MoveOn build a grassroots movement big enough to create a Republican landslide defeat.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly and help MoveOn build a grassroots movement big enough to create a Republican landslide defeat.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Republicans just robbed millions of Americans, you and me included, in order to please their wealthy and powerful donors with unnecessary and irresponsible tax cuts. Let's make sure that they pay the price. Even as we are fighting for the Dream Act, for children's health, to protect the Mueller investigation, and against a GOP government shutdown, we need to invest in the elections less than 11 months away.

Thank you so much for all you do.

The resignation of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai

I'm personally outraged that an industry shill like Ajit Pai was allowed to chair the FCC in the first place. Click here to sign and share my petition calling for his resignation.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

By repealing net neutrality, FCC Chairman Aji Pai has ignored millions of complaints to give his former employer Verizon and other major internet service providers the right to close off access to information on the World Wide Web. Pai also ignored the fact that millions of fake public comments corrupted the FCC's public process on net neutrality—including 2 million that were allegedly submitted using the stolen identities of real people.1

I'm personally outraged that an industry shill like Ajit Pai was allowed to chair the FCC in the first place. Click here to sign and share my petition calling for his resignation.

We are requesting the resignation of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, for ignoring millions of complaints about removing Net Neutrality and for impeding freedom of speech on the internet.

I, and millions of other internet users, will be affected by this decision and be placed behind pay walls set up by telecom corporations.

This will limit the amount of free information that is accessible to millions of people worldwide. If Pai does not want to improve the lives of American's across the country, then he should resign as chairman.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Will you sign my petition?

Puerto Rico needs a lifeline that only Congress and the Trump administration can provide. Please sign this petition to amplify the voices of those on the island who are still—quite literally—powerless.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

It’s Lin-Manuel Miranda here. The people of Puerto Rico need Congress to help the island, which was left ravaged by Hurricane Maria nearly three months ago—but they can’t do it without you.

Hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans haven’t had electricity since then. They don’t have power to turn on a light, stock a refrigerator, or take a hot shower. Thousands of homes are destroyed, rural areas are still isolated, small businesses are not operating, and there's an ever-increasing migration of Puerto Ricans to the U.S. mainland.

It’s clear that the federal government’s response to the disaster in Puerto Rico has been painfully slow and not commensurate with the hurricane response in Texas and Florida. Please sign the petition telling Congress the people of Puerto Rico need help now—it’s part of the United States too!

Please tell Congress the people of Puerto Rico need help now—it's part of the United States too!

The list of needed actions is short, straightforward, and agreed upon by Puerto Ricans of all political stripes who want to address these problems through the pending tax bill, funding for health care, a new relief package, and debt relief.

Let's amplify the voices of those on the island who are still—quite literally—powerless. Please sign the petition.

Thanks!

–Lin-Manuel Miranda

We can kill this bill. We must kill this bill.

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's Chief Operations Officer. As "the numbers guy," I write to MoveOn members very rarely. But I'm writing to you today because yesterday evening, Congress released its final version of the Republican tax scam—one of the worst bills ever considered by Congress. This fight is now entering its final stretch.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's Chief Operations Officer. As "the numbers guy," I write to MoveOn members very rarely. But I'm writing to you today because Friday evening Congress released its final version of the Republican tax scam—one of the worst bills ever considered by Congress. This fight is now entering its final stretch.

This bill truly is a scam. It is the biggest tax increase in American history.1 It cuts taxes for the super rich and corporations, while socking the rest of us.2 And it's expected to result in 13 million Americans losing their health care.3 That's why, as Senator Ron Wyden said, this bill is "the ultimate betrayal of the middle class."4

Never in my entire career has Congress so explicitly raised taxes on the middle class to cut them on millionaires and billionaires. It's absolutely despicable. But we still have a chance to stop this. Right now, as we enter the final stretch, we still don't know if the GOP has enough votes to pass this bill.

Thanks to strong support from MoveOn members this year, we've been able to successfully block the GOP from dismantling our health care—even though they tried several times. Now, in addition to fighting the GOP tax scam, we're also campaigning to win a clean Dream Act by Christmas, stop the Muslim ban, and expose Donald Trump's corrupt ties to Russia. And we're gearing up to win back the House and Senate in 2018.

It's a lot to do all at once. And we still have major financial commitments to make for our last-chance efforts to stop this despicable bill. Which is why I'm asking you:

Will you rush a contribution of $3, or whatever you can, to support MoveOn's emergency efforts to stop the GOP's sham tax plan and attack on our health care? Click here if you can.

I've been in progressive politics for a long time, and this is by far one of the worst bills considered by Congress during that entire time. I'm determined to stop it, and I'll do whatever it takes to make that happen (including writing you emails over the weekend asking for money, so that I can approve more urgent campaign expenses).

I know firsthand just how much you and our other members have invested in this movement already. I wouldn't ask you again if it weren't so important. With your support, we will take our very best shot at stopping this GOP tax bill, continue to protect our health care, and work on all of our other priorities at the same time.

We still need to make major financial commitments to defeat the GOP's tax scam over the coming days. That's why I'm asking you now—and why I need to know by Monday night: Can we count on you to pitch in $3 and help us stop this terrible tax reform and health care bill from passing?

Here's what we have planned to stop the GOP tax giveaway:

  • We're melting the phone lines in Washington, D.C., just like we did to defeat Trumpcare, using our innovative tools and targeting to drive constituent calls to key members of Congress. We have also mobilized a volunteer team to text tens of thousands of voters across the country and urge them to call key members of Congress. MoveOn members have made more than 75,000 calls to Congress on taxes already.

  • We're running in-person events this weekend and into next week. We're recruiting MoveOn members to host and attend rallies and actions around the country this weekend and working with allies to coordinate constituent drop-bys at offices in key states and congressional districts on Monday. We'll also continue to have a presence with rallies and actions in Washington, D.C.

  • We're making and targeting more hard-hitting videos. Our videos on taxes have already been seen 10 million times, and we've strategically invested to boost these videos in key markets. We're finalizing videos focusing on Senators Susan Collins and Jeff Flake that we'll run on social media in Maine, Arizona, and Washington, D.C. And we're continuing to push videos that specifically target the two dozen House Republicans who could still flip and reject this bill.

  • We're running more Facebook ads. Facebook ads help us show videos to constituents in key states and districts for only one tenth of a cent per view. So your donation will go a long way! And our videos also ask folks to call, which helps to flood congressional phone lines. Facebook ads also help us recruit folks to last-minute events—growing crowds and getting news coverage.

  • And we're gearing up to boot vulnerable Republicans who voted to raise taxes on their own middle-class constituents out of office. Many Republicans, representing areas carried by Hillary Clinton, already voted for this bill in some form. And no matter what ultimately happens, they must be held accountable. We'll make sure that their voters know that when they go to the polls on Election Day in 2018.

Will you help us fight back against the GOP tax scam and attack on health care? Click here to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford.

This is a massive undertaking. We know that the wealthiest and greediest of Trump's cronies are willing to spend whatever it takes to pass this bill and get their tax cuts. It's on us to ensure—once again—that people power prevails.

Thanks so much for all you do.

–Robert Fox

Sign the petition re: Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Will you sign and share my petition telling Congress to stop putting children's lives at risk and reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program?

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

This week, late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel brought his son who has a serious heart disease—and who underwent a second heart surgery last week—on air and pleaded to Congress to reauthorize funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which serves 8.9 million children.

I'm Rev. Phillip Geliebter, a MoveOn member in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and I agree with Kimmel. If we can ignore the most vulnerable among us, what are we doing as a nation?

That's why I started a petition to Congress demanding they save CHIP. Click here to sign and share my petition.

Save CHIP, which serves 8.9 million children. It's outrageous that our country easily funds endless wars but can't find the money to fund children's health care.

Kimmel shed tears while making an impassioned statement, saying the following words that we should all agree with, Republican, Democrat, or otherwise:

"If your baby is going to die and doesn't have to, it shouldn't matter how much money you make."

CHIP currently serves 8.9 million children. The program was last reauthorized by Congress in 2015, and was up for reauthorization again on September 30 this year. Congress failed to reauthorize it and let that deadline pass. Without reauthorization, the money will start to run out soon, and children's lives will be at risk.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Should MoveOn support this petition?

Dear MoveOn member,

A MoveOn member named Wayne Hsiung recently created a petition on our public petition website entitled "Costco: Remove "Humane" labels from products connected to animal abuse"–and we'd like to know what you think of it.

The petition is addressed to Costco, and reads:

Chickens inside of a Costco cage-free egg supplier were trampled to death. Stop calling this violence humane!

Sign Wayne's petition.

Here's what Wayne wrote about it:

Investigators with Direct Action Everywhere recently exposed horrific violence at a Costco egg farm in Colorado. At this "cage-free" farm, hens were packed into enclosures so tightly that they were often piled three high. The bodies of trampled birds were left to rot inside the farm. These eggs are sold at Costco as "certified humane."

During the investigation, activists rescued one hen named Bailey who was trapped inside the farm's machinery. According to egg industry estimates, more than 1 million hens die every year by getting stuck this way! See her story at dxe.io/costcocagefree.

Costco is known as a progressive company, but there is nothing progressive about animal abuse and consumer fraud. Tell Costco to stop lying about the conditions that animals live in!

Can you click to let us know what you think?

I want to sign this petition.

I don't think MoveOn should support this petition.

We'll decide whether to send this petition out to additional MoveOn members in your area based on your feedback.

In case you haven't heard about it, MoveOn's petition site allows anyone to start an online petition and share it with friends and neighbors to build support for their cause.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition: re: Alabama's new senator

Mitch McConnell is desperately obstructing the will of Alabama voters as he tries to pass a massive tax cut for the wealthy. Sign the petition to demand Doug Jones be seated immediately.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

My name is Bradley Davidson, and I'm from Birmingham, Alabama. My neighbors and the people of Alabama—powered by an influential turnout of African-American voters and a strong rebuke to the GOP's racist voter suppression efforts—spoke up in favor of Doug Jones last night. We also spoke out against the GOP's attempts to strip health care from millions while giving massive tax breaks to the wealthiest 1% and large corporations.

But now Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans to stop us from being heard—choosing to swear in Jones next year rather than immediately so Republicans can jam through the GOP's awful tax legislation that will hurt the people of Alabama.1

The people of Alabama have voted. Let us have our voice. Click here to sign my petition demanding Doug Jones be immediately seated in the United States Senate.

The people have spoken, and we want Doug Jones to immediately step into his rightful role as elected senator from Alabama. Seat Doug Jones now.

Want to support our work? The MoveOn community will work every moment, day by day and year by year, to resist Trump's agenda, contain the damage, defeat hate with love, and begin the process of swinging the nation's pendulum back toward sanity, decency, and the kind of future that we must never give up on. And to do it we need your ongoing support, now more than ever. Will you stand with us?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month.
